Presentation

The Mediterranean gardens of the Parc de Figuerolles are located on
the location of the former estate of the Sunhary Deverville family,
acquired by the City of Martigues in March 1999.
The plantations are organized according to the theme of resistance to
drought, around six gardens spread over 4 spaces.
Each garden therefore corresponds to a level of resistance, ranked 1
to 6: the plants of the garden 1 can withstand 1 month to the drought the plants of the garden 6, up to 6 months.

In addition to the 27 native plant species (Aleppo pine, green oak, ...), or introduced by the family Sunhary Deverville (Yucca, Lilac of India, Laurel rose, ...), this site gathers nearly 300 species
representative plants of a flora adapted to the Mediterranean climate, on an area of about two hectares.

An area where protected plants thrive (Marsh-leaved Hummingbird and Thornless Bugrane) is delineated near the main entrance.
In addition to the plantations, a mirrored basin with a jet of water in the center was built in the middle of an old yucca plantation.
Indeed, it is important to note that the plants presented in these gardens have very different origins: Mediterranean Basin, South America, South Africa, China, Southeast of the United States, California, Australia, ... These are places where the Mediterranean climate is well established.
