So Auguste Renoir did not say to Claude Monet in 1906: "It would be very interesting to see you do this country, it would be something else and you would do wonders".
It is true that with the installation of Félix Ziem on the edges of the Caronte channel, in 1860, many artists will come to discover "the Venice of Ziem" as Auguste Renoir also says in one of his letters.
If he is one of the first to follow in the footsteps of the Master, he will be followed by many others: Francis Picabia, Raoul Dufy, André Derain or Maurice de Vlaminck
are among the best known.
There is no lack of choice when you are passionate about this city and decide to collect oils on canvas and watercolors.
The exhibition offered by the museum is devoted to one of its private collections, the owner of which wishes to remain anonymous.
With nearly 90 works dating from the end of the 19th century to the middle of the 20th century, it invites you to stroll through Martigues, from Jonquières to Ferrières, passing by the Island of course and its Bird Mirror, a place so much appreciated by painters .
It also offers you to discover the city differently, through the incomparable look that only certain artists know how to bring to their environment suddenly making it strangely different, revealing to our eyes the beauty of the streets yet familiar and the admirable Mediterranean light that transfigures all thing.

At the reception of the museum, a trunk is at your disposal. Games (puzzles and memory), notebooks to draw, puzzles to solve and details of works await you. They will allow you to share a unique moment, to discover works while having fun!
