Before the creation of the highly acclaimed Tous des Oiseaux, Wajdi Mouawad worked on the Domestic cycle. With Mother, the spectator witnesses the intersection between the story of a family in exile and great history through the eyes of a ten-year-old child.

Alongside actresses Odette Makhlouf and Aïda Sabra, playing his mother and sister respectively, Wajdi Mouawad recounts their exile to Paris, fleeing the Lebanese civil war, while the father remained in the country to pursue his professional activities. It is in front of the television news of Antenne 2 presented by Christine Ockrent (who plays herself on stage) that they witness the bombardments of Beirut. Five years of waiting and worrying, during which everyone hopes for the end of the war to get back to their old lives. The last of the children witnesses the steamroller of history crushing the person who is dearest to him, his mother. He does not know that these events will mark him forever, from the memory he carries of his mother to making this story a show.
