Friday 04 October 2024.
Presentation of the course, followed by the screening of :
- Marcel Pagnol ou la source et le secret’, documentary by Claude-Jean Philippe (1979).
‘I only wrote and filmed what I saw’ declared Marcel Pagnol in an interview with Pierre Tchernia. ‘For me, the truth is what pleases you’ echoed Fernandel in Angèle. Claude-Jean Philippe deduces from this that, beyond observation, Pagnol reveals the profound genius of the South, its great secrets and its little lies. Interviews and extracts respond to each other. Vincent Rémy.
- D'Angèle à Toni’, documentary by Alain Bergala (1998).
1934: two decisive films were shot in Provence almost simultaneously: Angèle, which made the young Marcel Pagnol a star auteur in French cinema; Toni, which Renoir shot in Martigues at Pagnol's invitation, and which can be considered as the French precursor of neo-realism. Two clearly divergent cinematographic lines: we move from a still archaic Provence to another in the process of changing, from Pagnol's classical dramaturgy to Renoir's documentary realism.
Programme under development for the next dates: Friday 13 December 2024 and Friday 28 February 2025.
