Another drawing from around the world: Palermo, 1149. The Arab geographer Al Idrisi wrote, at the request of King Roger of Sicily, one of the greatest treatises on geography of the Middle Ages: The Geography of the West.
In order to carry out this great design, the entire court was mobilized: scribes, calligraphers, travelers and emissaries... Thus Paul de Balz, a Frankish troubadour, and Aylan, a Berber calligrapher, embarked on a journey which, from Mont Saint- Michel in Bejaïa, will lead them to observe the artistic and architectural works of their time as well as the customs and upheavals of the medieval world on the shores of the Mediterranean. Crusaders and witches, sailors and knights rub shoulders in these boards with the Bayeux tapestry, cathedral frescoes, illuminations and cave paintings. But isn't this new outline of a world that Roger dreams of being erudite and peaceful cracking under the blows of intrigue, within the very heart of this court of Palermo where cultures, peoples and religions mingle?
