Presentation
The Musée Ziem has a collection of over 200 watercolours by Félix Ziem. Half of the artist's works in the museum's possession have never been shown to the public.
The museum is located in Ferrières town centre, and admission is free.

This exhibition is an opportunity to enjoy the beauty of these watercolours, which are fragile works that are highly vulnerable to the effects of light, which must be subdued. They will return to the reserves for some time after this exhibition.
The selection of watercolours on display at the museum are from the artist's youth, when he had just left his native Burgundy and discovered the light of the Midi.
The selection of watercolours belongs to the Musée Ziem and the Musée d'Histoire de Marseille.
They show Marseille and Martigues, and demonstrate the high quality of Félix Ziem as a draughtsman and watercolourist, who was greatly influenced by British artists.
Gifted with a keen sense of observation, his work can be as precise as that of an architect, or more spontaneous, evoking the variations in light so characteristic of the Mediterranean.
To find out more: Watercolour is a drawing technique that lies somewhere between graphic art and painting.
It is a water-based paint applied to paper. Artists use the transparency characteristic of this medium to render details, capture atmospheres and variations in light.
Initially seen as an aid for making preparatory studies for painting, it became an independent technique from the end of the 17th century with the English school, from William Blake to William Turner, and was highly prized by artists in the 19th century.
"Mix a Turner and a Bonington and the result is a Ziem".
Théophile Gautier, La Presse, 24 April 1851.
Parallel exhibition: "Félix Ziem, painter of the Mediterranean".
From the Camargue to Egypt, via Martigues, Nice, Venice, Algiers and Constantinople
Constantinople, he never stopped painting its shores.
This exhibition invites you to discover the magic of his golden hues, the splendour of his azure skies, but also the boldness of his brushstrokes and the freedom of his gesture that made him the precursor of Impressionism and action painting.
Camille Claudel's bust of Rodin will also be on permanent display in the galleries from the All Saints' holiday period.
