Presentation

Guided tour of the Calen by the municipal archives, followed by a visit to the exhibition "From salt mining to the chemical industry in Martigues" at the History Gallery.
The municipal archives of Martigues offer a visit to the calen and a presentation of the history of this traditional, respectful and sustainable fishing of the Caronte channel.
The calen was born in the 20th century. It designates both the place and the net stretched between the two banks of the Caronte channel. Various species of fish are caught there. But it is the female mullets or mules and their eggs that are prized in order to obtain the bottarga, "the caviar of Martigues". The calen is part of our local history. It is necessary to protect and enhance it.
