Presentation

Like many 19th century artists, Italy was for Ziem the country of art par excellence.
Nearly 90 paintings on wood and canvas, pencils, charcoals, washes and watercolours will allow you to follow his peregrinations.
When he left his native Burgundy at the age of 18, it was to go to Italy.
He would not be able to fulfil his dream until a few years later, but his fascination would only increase.
Nicknamed the "Painter of Venice", he visited the whole of Italy: from Verona to Syracuse, passing through Rome and the city of the Doges, of course, he never ceased to capture these marvellous Mediterranean landscapes through drawing or painting.

He also made many beautiful portraits of people he met during his travels, showing with emotion his sympathy for the local populations.
