- Thursday 16 March: "Marie Bashkirtseff, a broken destiny" by Jeanne Pillon, in charge of exhibitions, documentation and archives at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Nice.
Destined for a musical career, Marie Bashkirtseff (1858-1884) gave up singing for painting, without however giving up the piano. She assiduously wrote her Diary in which she sketched a fresco of 19th century social and artistic life and delivered a fabulous feminist manifesto.
She painted with passion and rigour in order to achieve her goal of becoming a recognised painter. This lecture will present the life and work of this aristocrat of Ukrainian origin who died at the age of 26 and will focus on her plastic teaching in the artistic context of the time.
- Thursday 13 April: "Auguste Rodin and Camille Claudel, face to face" by Véronique Mattiussi, scientific manager of the historical collection of the Rodin Museum in Paris.
This conference will be based on the Portrait of Rodin by Camille Claudel: a pretext for a face to face meeting between the two artists.
The talk will be devoted to the representation of Rodin in the work of Camille Claudel and that of Camille Claudel in the work of Rodin.
- Thursday 11 May: "Les Yeux clos d'Odilon Redon: une icône du symbolisme" (The Closed Eyes of Odilon Redon: an icon of Symbolism) by Laurent Houssais, director of the Art History Department at the University of Bordeaux.
This conference will study one of the key works of Odilon Redon (1840-1916), an artist who is sometimes unknown to the general public, even though he is undoubtedly one of the most important artists of the late 19th century.
It sheds light on the essential elements of his aesthetic and his production, while at the same time initiating a reflection on the reasons why it gradually became an icon of symbolism.
