Mathilde Monnier occupies a place of reference in the landscape of contemporary dance. His new creation presented at the Festival d'Avignon 2023, Black Lights reflects the daily violence against women with emotion, realism or humor.

Twenty-four authors around the world wrote from real facts, read, heard or lived, with the following general principle: a day, a unity of place, a text, a situation, a woman. These are stories that tell a sexism of the present and testify to the need to hear and see what, every day, is invisible to society, forgotten, neglected. Each of the texts is first of all a cry, a language, a rhythm, a vocal inflection, but also a physical implication, a gesture. There is behind these words the strength of presences, bodies in motion or motionless, bodies that bear witness, that put themselves into play, that bring their truth: that of being there in resistance, in power, in speech.
